How to Plan the Perfect Nashville Trip: A Guide to Where to Stay and What to Do

Recently, I visited Nashville, Tennessee, a city known for its music. But there's so much more to this southern gem than just honky-tonk and country tunes. From its rich history to its delicious food and drink scene, there's something for everyone in Nashville. Here are a few places to add to your list when visiting Music City.

First things first, let's talk about the National Museum of African American Music.

The National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) is new museum opened its doors in January 2021, and it's already making waves in the music community. The museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the contributions of African American musicians to American music. It's like a musical time machine, taking you through the history of gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and more. I had a blast creating my own sounds here — and even jumping into a sound booth to sing along to popular hip-hop songs.

Visit the Country Music Hall of Fame

If you want to explore more music, check out the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. It’s dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of country music and its biggest stars. You’ll interactive exhibits, artifacts, and memorabilia that tell the story of country music from its roots in the rural South to its current status as a global phenomenon. You can learn about the history of country music, see stage costumes worn by your favorite country music stars, and even take a backstage tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Taste the local food

But Nashville isn't just about the music; it’s also about the food. The city is known for its hot chicken, and you'll find plenty of places to get your fix. The best part? Nashville hot chicken is a spicy dish, so it's perfect for those who love a little heat in their food. If you're not a fan of spice, don't worry, there are plenty of mild options too. If you’re visiting during the weekend, stop by one of the city’s many brunch restaurants. I visited Liberty Common — I loved it so much that I ate here twice for brunch (once on Saturday, the next on Sunday). Standout menu items include avocado toast, chicken and waffles, and a variety of delicious cocktails to choose from.

Drinking in Nashville

The city has a burgeoning craft beer scene, so if you're a beer lover, you'll definitely want to check out some of the local breweries. And if whiskey is more your thing, Nashville is home to several distilleries, including the famous George Dickel. But, to experience the true Nashville, you'll have to try a classic southern cocktail like a Mint Julep or an Old Fashioned. I visited a cocktail bar called One More, a hidden speakeasy on the third level of Fifth and Broadway — it’s an intimate setting with delicious drinks and live music.

Experience the honky-tonks on Broadway

You'll want to hit up one of the many honky-tonks lining the street. These legendary establishments are where the city's country music stars started and are still strong today. You'll find live music playing every night of the week, and you never know who might drop in for a surprise performance. But Broadway isn't just about country music — you'll also find plenty of bars and clubs playing everything from rock to blues to hip-hop.

Treat yourself to a luxury spa visit

Looking for a relaxing spa experience in Nashville? Look no further than Rhapsody Spa at The Westin Nashville. I had a chance to visit and experience the Essential Rhapsody 50min body massage — this service provides firm pressure and focused work to ease muscular tension where it is most needed. You’ll also find a steam room and a sauna, perfect for unwinding after a long day. With its tranquil atmosphere and top-notch services, Rhapsody Spa is the perfect place to pamper yourself and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Explore the outdoors

Nashville has plenty of options if you’re looking for something more outdoorsy. The city is home to several parks, including the beautiful Centennial Park. The park features a replica of the Parthenon, a sight to see. Inside, you can pay $10 to experience the museum and see Athena Parthenos — the largest indoor sculpture in the Western World. While at the park, you can also rent a paddleboat and take a leisurely ride around the lake.

Learn about the history of Nashville

The Belle Meade Plantation is a historic plantation that dates back to the early 19th century. The plantation is home to a beautiful Greek Revival mansion and several outbuildings, including a smokehouse, a carriage house, and a dairy. The plantation is open to the public and offers tours of the mansion.

So, whether you're a local or just visiting, make sure to explore Broadway in Nashville. It's the perfect place to experience the city's legendary music scene, delicious food, and vibrant nightlife. Just remember to pace yourself because, on Broadway, the party never stops.

where to stay in Nashville

During my stay in Nashville, I checked into Bobby Hotel. When it comes to choosing a hotel in Nashville, Bobby Hotel stood out to me! Located in the heart of the city, this lifestyle boutique hotel offers spacious and stylish guest rooms. One of my favorite features of this property is that it's dog-friendly — with special dog-friendly amenities, such as beds and bowls, to ensure your pup is just as comfortable as you are during your stay.

Through February, you' can also visit Camp Bobby's rooftop. This 70’s-inspired campsite features snacks and libations around personal campfire igloos and a 70’s tour bus-inspired lounge in Bobby’s retrofitted 1956 Scenicruiser.
