When it comes to visiting Boston, the recommendations are endless. There’s plenty of tips and tricks to making the most out of your trip. But even with all the itinerary planning and research, there are just some things you don’t learn until you arrive. Check out some of the Boston facts I wished I learn beforehand:

  1. Leave the heels at home

Boston is an old, historic city, and the beautiful streets are lined with brick and cobblestones. As pretty as this is, it’s not very kind to your feet. Do yourself a favor, save the stilettos for a less action-packed activity, and throw on a comfy pair of kicks instead. This will allow you to see more of Boston comfortably (and remember, a blister-free trip is a happy trip.)

  2. Local museums offer admission-free days

One of the best free Boston attractions to take advantage of are the admission-free days at local museums. Head to the Institute of Contemporary Art and check out modern masterpieces on any Thursday, where admission is free from 5 PM to 9 PM.

  3. There is no happy hour

You’d think that happy hour would be at the top of Boston activities, but the city has banned this from bars and restaurants since 1984. The good news is that there are plenty of deals on after-work bites.

  4. The last call in Boston is 2 AM

Nightlife is one of the best things to do in Boston. However, if you’re planning on painting the town red till the sun shines, you’ll be sorely mistaken. The party winds down at around 2 AM for Boston bars and clubs. So make sure you grab your late-night meals early.

  5. The city is a collegiate mecca

Boston is a great college town. With more than 50 colleges and universities in the area, you’ll find plenty of fun free things to do on these campuses. Wander around Harvard Square to check out street performances or head to Boston University for free stargazing at the Coit Observatory.
