5 Easy Tips to Make Travel Less Stressful

To help make traveling a bit easier for travelers, here are my tried-and-true tips and tricks to help ease any stress that may come up for you on your journey. It’s easy to avoid stressful experiences on the road when you are prepared.

  1. Plan ahead.

It’s easy nowadays (with text updates) to stay aware of any flight delays. Always check the airline’s website to see if this notification service is available and download their app — if the airline has one. It’s always good to leave a little bit of buffer room between your arrival and the first activity — to be safe. No one likes to rush or miss an appointment.

  2. Have a positive attitude.

Nobody wants to sit next to a negative person in-flight. If you’re feeling irritable because of a take-off delay or children incessantly crying in front of you, try to take a deep breath and focus on the good. You may even want to do some breathing exercises, such as 4-7-8 breathing or do a body scan to change your focus. Your seat-mate and blood pressure will thank you.

  3. Eat well.

Everyone knows airport food is not only overpriced, but usually lacking in quality as well. Plan ahead with a healthy meal and snacks that you can take with you. You’ll feel a lot more energized and proud of yourself for saving money, too.

  4. Pack smart.

Create a checklist of must-have items and cross them off to ensure nothing is left behind. The last thing you want is to arrive at the airport and realize you didn’t grab your passport. From snacks and sanitizing wipes to AirPods and your travel water bottle — you’ll be prepared for anything.

  5. Arrive early

Always provide ample time before a flight to reduce some of the stress of checking bags, security checks, and other aspects of travel. The general rule of thumb is arriving two hours ahead of time for domestic flights, and three hours ahead of time for international. Better safe than sorry! Some airports have lounges and yoga studios, so even if you’re super early, you may be able to get some quality self-care time in. Always pack some comfortable clothing with you, so you can relax before and during your flight.
