What It’s Like to Travel Morocco Solo (But Not Alone!)
I was in Morocco in this summer, and WOW. I’m still dreaming about the colors, the sounds, the food, the desert stars... all of it. But the wildest part? I didn’t do it alone. I joined the Solo-ish Morocco trip with G Adventures, a curated 10-day experience made just for solo travelers who still want community. If you’ve been toying with the idea of going solo but don’t want to feel alone, this is your sign.
You can literally book the same itinerary I did (just with one extra day of magic): Click here to check it out!
Day-by-Day Morocco Trip
Casablanca: Cooking, Connecting, and Kicking Things Off
Our trip started with a group dinner party and hands-on Moroccan cooking class. Picture: tagine bubbling on the stove, strangers turning into friends over bites of pastilla, and the scent of fresh herbs everywhere. Safe to say, we bonded instantly.
Volubilis: Ancient Roman Ruins
Who knew ancient Roman ruins could be found in Morocco? We stopped in Volubili, which completely surprised me…in the best way. Just outside Meknes, we wandered through these UNESCO-listed ruins, where centuries-old stone structures still stand proud against a backdrop of olive groves and hills. With our G Adventures guide leading the way, we learned how this city was once a thriving Roman outpost. From intricate mosaics to crumbling archways, every corner whispered a piece of ancient history.
Women’s Empowerment Through Food
This day was day was everything. We started with a traditional homemade lunch cooked by a women-led social enterprise supported by G Adventures. The food? Flavorful. The mission? Even more impactful. Sharing stories over freshly baked bread and couscous made with love was one of those quiet, beautiful moments you don’t forget. It wasn’t just a meal, it was a reminder of how community-based tourism can uplift and empower, one plate at a time.
Wine Tasting in Meknes
After lunch, we visited a family-owned vineyard surrounded by rolling fields of grapes and glowing mountains. The golden hour light hit just right as we tasted Syrah and Cabernet, paired with locally sourced cheeses and olives. I felt like I had stepped into a magazine shoot, every view was a postcard. But beyond the aesthetic, this was about slowing down and savoring the richness of Morocco. A toast to connection, community, and experiences that stay with you long after the trip ends.
Fès: A City of Chaos, Beauty, and Leather Dye
Visiting the Chouara Tannery was one of the most unforgettable parts of my time in Fès. Perched above a patchwork of honeycomb-like dye pits, I watched artisans work with the same natural processes passed down for centuries, all while holding a sprig of mint under my nose (trust me, it helps!). The scent might be strong, but the history and artistry? Even stronger.
Sahara Desert: The Moment That Changed Me
We rode camels at sunset, slept under stars, and shared a desert campfire meal with local Berber musicians. The next morning? We woke up at sunrise, took 4x4s into the dunes, met nomadic Amazigh families, and learned how to make Medfouna (aka Berber pizza, no cheese, just vegetables cooked under hot sand). This day will live in my heart forever. By the way, staying in the Sahara with G Adventures was truly a bucket-list dream. Save this tour to your list!
Todra Gorge: Canyons & Curls
We hiked through Todra Gorge, took glam photos with our curls blowing in the canyon breeze, and felt tiny among towering cliffs. The beauty? Wild!
Aït Ben Haddou: A Real-Life Movie Set
We explored this UNESCO World Heritage site, a desert fortress town featured in Game of Thrones and Gladiator. We visited a local home, drank tea with nomadic families, and climbed to the top for panoramic views that made us gasssspppp.
Marrakech: Souks, Sweets & Saying Goodbye
We ended in Marrakech with food tastings (hello briwate and mint), garden strolls, and a deep dive into the city’s rich history. The Bahia Palace was stunning. The Saadian tombs? Haunting and beautiful. We danced in the streets, sipped juice before heading to our next destination, and ended the trip with a farewell dinner at a local food spot.
