Your Complete Guide to Traveling from Cartagena to Baru Island

Are you planning a trip to Cartagena and are stopping in Baru Island? If you've watched the series' White Lotus', you might have imagined a serene boat ride to an idyllic island. That's precisely what traveling to Baru Island from Cartagena feels like!

You might also wonder, "How do I get to Baru, Colombia?" There are many options, but my favorite is the boat ride. It's not just a mode of transport — it's part of the adventure. We organized our boat transfer at the Sofitel Santa Clara Hotel in Cartagena. Although we opted for a shared transfer, luck was on our side, and we had a private, leisurely ride.

The 45-minute journey across the serene waters was nothing short of stunning. If you're looking for a taxi from Cartagena to Isla Baru, that’s also an option.

Upon reaching Baru Island, we were greeted by staff from the Sofitel Baru Calablanca, where we stayed, with its breathtaking views. The convenience and experience of getting there by boat made it all the more special.

Also, to clear up any confusion, Baru Island is separate from the Rosario Islands, each boasting its unique charm.

If you're also curious about the best area to stay in Cartagena, I would personally recommend the Old Town for its historical charm and vibrant nightlife. However, if luxury is what you seek, Bocagrande, with its modern high-rises and stunning beaches, might just be your go-to place.

  • So, if you're planning a trip to Cartagena — and Baru Island is on your itinerary, consider taking the boat ride.
