Exploring Cartagena’s Food Scene: My Top Restaurant Picks

Cartagena, with its vibrant colors and colonial charm, is also home to a gastronomic scene that is both rich and varied. If you're pondering what to eat in this picturesque city, here's a curated list of some of the best dining experiences Cartagena has to offer. Also, I visited all of these locations, minus Celele!

La Cevicheria

  • What to Expect: A seafood lover's paradise. The ceviche dishes, bursting with fresh flavors and zesty lime, are unmissable.

  • Tip: Pair your ceviche with a local drink for the ultimate experience — I loved the coconut lemonade. In Spanish, it’s called limonada de coco.

Epoca Cafe

  • What to Expect: More than just a cafe, Epoca offers both Colombian and international coffee flavors in a setting that feels like a delightful trip back in time.

  • Tip: Try their signature blend and pair it with a local breakfast dish.

Ana Restaurant

  • What to Expect: A unique blend of traditional Colombian flavors with international influences. The menu is as innovative as it is delicious.

  • Tip: Don’t forget to try the drinks — the presentation is fun!

Alquimo Bar

  • What to Expect: An explosion of flavors in a bustling bar scene.

  • Tip: Head up to the rooftop bar once you’ve had drinks downstairs. It’s vibey with great music!

Alma Restaurant

  • What to Expect: A blend of ambiance and traditional fare, this spot offers a true Cartagena dining experience located inside of Casa San Agustin.

  • Tip: Secure a table in their courtyard for a memorable evening.

Candé Restaurant

  • What to Expect: Authenticity is key at Candé. The restaurant offers some of the best Colombian food in Cartagena in an atmosphere that echoes the city's colonial past.

  • Tip: Their seafood dishes are a must-try!

Jardin Santa Clara at Sofitel legend santa clara

  • What to Expect: Elegance and top-tier dining. Located in the heart of the city, Jardin Santa Clara is both an architectural and gastronomic delight.

  • Tip: Perfect for special occasions or a romantic dinner.

Celele Restaurante

  • What to Expect: Noted as one of Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants in 2021, Celele offers Colombian food with a modern twist. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to dine here during my stay as reservations are required, but it came highly recommended, and the dishes look incredible.

  • Tip: Read the reviews to see which plates you want to order.

Overall, Cartagena offers a diverse culinary landscape. From chic cafes to sophisticated restaurants, the city is an epicurean dream — see what the plate ambiance and plates look like here!
