1. Detox with a Clarifying Shampoo

First up: a fresh start! Detoxing with a clarifying shampoo is my go-to for removing product buildup, oil, and any residue that might weigh down my curls. I like using K18 Biomimetic Hairscience Clarifying Detox Shampoo — it’s affordable, gentle enough for occasional use, and leaves my scalp feeling so clean. This clarifying step is my way of giving my curls a “reset” at the beginning of each month.

  • Tip: Use clarifying shampoo about once a month, as overuse can strip your hair of natural oils.

2. Add a Scalp Massage to My Routine

In 2025, I’m committed to making scalp massages a regular part of my routine. I use a Scalp Massager to help stimulate blood flow and promote growth. It’s become a relaxing nightly ritual that makes my scalp feel revitalized and my curls bouncier. Not only is it great for circulation, but it also just feels amazing!

  • Tip: If you’re adding scalp massages to your routine, a couple of minutes each night goes a long way.

3. Deep Condition with Quality Moisturizers

Curly hair needs all the moisture it can get, especially during the dry winter months! A rich, hydrating leave-in conditioner is essential in my routine. I’m loving AG Care Fast Food Leave-On Conditioner for its hydration and detangling benefits. I apply a small amount after washing to keep my curls soft, defined, and frizz-free.

  • Tip: Focus on applying your leave-in to the mid-lengths and ends, where curly hair tends to dry out the most. And once a week, treat yourself to a deep conditioning session to lock in moisture.

4. Protect Curls with a Heat Protectant Spray

Even though I keep heat styling to a minimum, sometimes a diffuser or a quick touch-up with a curling wand is needed. To keep my curls healthy and prevent heat damage, I use the Redken Thermal Spray High Hold. It’s lightweight and doesn’t weigh my curls down, but it offers solid protection against the occasional blast of heat.

  • Tip: For best results, spritz your curls lightly and distribute the product evenly before using any heat-styling tools. Remember, less is more with curly hair!

5. Set My 2025 Curl Goals

This year, I’m all about curl care and setting hair goals that work with my natural texture. Some of my goals include improving curl definition, reducing frizz, and embracing protective styles that keep my curls healthy. I’m excited to try more low-maintenance styles and experiment with looks from my Pinterest mood boards to inspire my curly looks for each season. And, as always, I’m sticking to products that give my curls hydration, strength, and definition.
