The Coziest Winter Weekend Getaway from New York City

Short getaways in the season of hibernation feel more important than ever. That’s why I’m sharing one of the most charming properties I’ve stayed at this year. Earlier this month, instead of getting on a plane to a tropical destination, I drove 3 hours to upstate New York to visit a charming property in Saratoga Springs, NY — Brentwood Hotel.

Located on the historic Saratoga Springs horse racecourse, this pet-friendly, stylish, and sleek hotel has 12 guest rooms with amazing views. What’s more, the property is offering contactless check-in and check-out experience in light of the pandemic. Hours prior to arrival, the hotel team reached out to register my room and ask for an estimated arrival window. Once I arrived, I received a unique key code via text to enter my room, which felt completely secure and safe!

I stayed in room 10, which was uniquely appointed with a minibar with local goodies and refreshments, antique finds, a bluetooth-enabled Tivoli radio, and bath products supplied by Beekman 1802. What struck my eye was the bathroom — designed with brass hardware, black walls, and white porcelain. The outside of the property resembles local stables with a beautiful white board-and-batten design, which blended with the racecourse across the street while the minimalist brass lights achieve the right level of visual comfort.

Also, since adopting my German Shepherd/Hound puppy Zoey, I’ve only looked at properties that welcome furry friends. Fortunately, Brentwood Hotel is one of those awesome properties! While entering my King size hotel room, I was welcomed with a doggy kit, a sleeping pad, and bowls for Zoey. Let’s just say that she devoured the treats and left with a new bandana and toy. Dogs can stay in select rooms at the Brentwood Hotel for $40 for the first night ($20 for each additional night) and are spoiled with a selection of treats.

During my stay, I lounged fireside on a cold evening, chatted with the hotel manager Rob, and enjoyed the racetrack views with good conversation. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and limited capacity, the bar and lobby were closed. I’ve heard the signature drinks at the intimate bar are worth trying, so I’ll be back with an update on the bar my next visit during summer races.

Overall, I can’t wait to return to the Brentwood Hotel — a warm and cozy stay with the friendliest staff in town that goes above and beyond to ensure guest safety.
